Green Glue is an innovative, viscoelastic, damping compound that is used between two solid layers to create a sound barrier. Green Glue Compound was developed as the result of testing hundreds of formulas in standard field conditions.
It was designed to work effectively, practically even before worrying about the specs. However, the specifications speak for themselves as Green Glue Compound rates highly not just in terms of performance, but also in terms of physical properties and technical data.
The compound has a high viscosity, which allows a material to resist deformation of its shape. Green Glue is not a solid material, but a thick, viscous liquid, which allows for easier spreading and the best sound results. Green Glue Compound has also been tested and classified with a Class A fire rating. It has also received UL certifications as an environmentally friendly and mold resistant product.
Green Glue Compound is a well-designed, easy-to-use and thoroughly tested product that can help with any sound project.
Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant is just as impressive its counterpart, the Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound. This material rates just as highly, if not higher, in most of the technical tests, including viscosity.
That means that the sealant is not used solely as an add-on to the compound, and that it is crucial to truly achieving the best sound reduction. Much like the compound, the Green Glue Sealant is Class A fire rated and UL certified, and perfect for use to finish drywall or any other rigid construction material.
Much like our Noise Grabber products, Green Glue has been thoroughly tested in laboratory settings as well as real-world applications to prove its effectiveness in reduction of sound transmission. This process includes testing to ASTM spec, as well as the same STC testing that our Noise Grabber MLV goes through.
One major difference between Green Glue and Noise Grabber MLV is that Green Glue cannot be used by itself as a barrier. As it is not a solid barrier, Green Glue’s STC results differ based on the assembly it is installed in.
For example: a standard 2x4” stud wall, with 5/8" drywall, has an average STC rating of 40. By adding Green Glue compound to one side with another layer of drywall increases its STC to a 52. If Green Glue and drywall are added to both sides, the STC would increase to a 56.
You can achieve significant STC gains using Green Glue Compound in several different wall assembly types. Green Glue also blocks a large range of frequencies, making it effective against a wide range of sounds. When used in conjunction with the Green Glue Sealant to seal the seams of the walls together, along with sealing the wall to the ceiling and floor, you will experience even higher levels of sound reduction.
